How to change File Associations for Windows Media Player in Windows XP

1. From the Start button, Open Control Panel and click on Folder Options

You will see this screen if you click on File Types (note arrow)

Then scroll down until you see the extension WMV
your screen will show something other than Windows Media Player

Click once on WMV

2. With WMV highlighted the Change button is enabled as shown.

3. Click Change and Select Windows Media Player as shown

4. Click OK and you are done!.

Note: that if you are downloading Windows Media Player, you will
have to option to associate WMV files with Windows Media Player
after the install.
