How do I get it?
To insure a good user experience we did extensive Beta testing by providing free copy of The Dudley Tool™ and soliciting feedback. That is over now and we have added many guidelines and improved the tool based upon user feedback. To get on the new order list (no obligation) please email me at todd@webmarketingresources.net or please feel free to call me. We will ask that you agree not to release it until the beta is complete and hope you will be willing to discuss your suggestions for improvement. This not required, we only wish to make the best possible tool and the only way to do that is via user feedback.

What is it, how does it work?
The Dudley is not an automated web service. This is a detailed survey which requires your input (about 1 hour) and grades your site's: usability, navigation, content, technical compliance and persuasiveness.

It will then:
1. help you evaluate what is in need of improvement,
2. offers examples of solutions and what works and
3. explains the benefits of why you should fix it.

Lastly, it explains
1. what "fixes" will deliver the greatest return, and
2. what are the easiest things to fix
3. therefore helping you build a strategic redesign plan.

You can start and stop it at any point. There is no catch or hidden fee. top

Who is this for, Usability Experts only? -
No! It was designed to help anyone improve their site.

Business Owners and/or Marketing Staff - use it to determine your score and therefore the success potential for your site. You will learn about basic usability and gain a tool which helps you measure how much your web team is improving the site. By comparing it with your conversion (aka success rate) you can see how good usability is essential to web success.

Web Developers - use the tool to insure your site meets current usability guidelines and also integrate new persuasive guidelines. Promise a site to your customer, which complies and ensures good usability from the start. top

Why use it?
The sites who have taken this test and made the recommended improvements have seen ROI's of double (and more) their conversion rates. People who just want to understand usability or manage web development also find it helpful. Imagine a weekly site review where you can ask your web team: How many grade points did we improve this week and how has it affected profitability? Instead of technical jargon, you have an easily understood, quantifiable measure. top

What does it cost?

Final cost will be in the $25 range, adding the new IA tool will put it at $75. There are no hidden fees. It is complete. We send you the tool and the instructions. We ask that you not share it with anyone.

What do I do with it?
1. Give it to your web designers before redesigning your site; tell them to score above 90%
2. Run the test on your site and discover what you need to improve. Either make the improvements or get quotes on what it will take. First be sure to sort the "failures" based upon what is easy and hard to fix and what will bring the best return.
3. Bring it up in your next website/sales/board meeting. Record the starting grade. Every week as you make improvements measure how the improvements affect sales.
4. Find a site (competitor) you like, test their site to understand what works on their site and why.
5. Use it to learn about basic Usability Guidelines. top

Why use a usability expert if I have The Dudley Tool?
This is no substitute for a trained user experience architect. It does not do user testing, it can only look at basic usability and it could never deliver what an expert consultant, with years of experience can accomplish. We built this because so many sites now deliver a miserable user experience. The more you know about usability and the more successful your site becomes, the more likely you are to understand what an expert can deliver. We also recognize that many sites will hire a consultant and this tool will help them as well. We have invested hundreds of hours in building this tool, we have tested it with other designers and Usability consultants and it works. You need only take the time to try it to discover for yourself. top


Why the name Dudley?
The Dudley Tool is named after an MIT engineer from the 40's who had a remarkable ability to make complex things simple. Making the complex goal of web success accessible to many, would be something Dudley would be proud of. top

The web needs better usability and there is currently no way for small companies to measure and/or understand basic site usability. We see serious and significant mistakes every day on nearly every site we visit.

We make our living in usability consulting but we don't see The Dudley as hurting our business. Usability consultants fear that people will see this as "instant" usability, or as minimizing the level of expertise required for an exceptional user experience. We are confident that the more you know about usability, the more you will want to know.
