Geoff has been President of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. I first encountered his work on the covers of the Patrick O'Brian novels. This New York Times described this extraordinary series of books as: "The best historical novels ever written". Heady praise indeed and such a series deserved one of the best marine artists alive today to make these images come to life. Geoff has a remarkable eye for detail and meticulously researches his subjects. His precise treatments of actual historical events as well his creative paintings beautifully capture a subject that is extremely challenging: ships and the sea. The movie "Master and Commander" was based on the series. Please acquaint yourself with his body of work, any afficionado of marine art will quickly recognize his exceptional talent.
His work hangs in well known marine museums and he hardly needs this humble endorsement. It nice to see such a talent get recognition, treat yourself to an exploration of his work.
I first met him when trying to negotiate a contract to introduce his prints and paintings to the American market via Mystic Seaport Museum. His integrity shown thru the challenging negotiations and a friendship began. We introduced a variety of his limited edition prints and they quickly sold. If you have the chance to find one, rest assured they are a great investment. Mine have all increased dramatically in price (as much as tenfold in a year though I suggest that you should invest in his work for the pleasure not the profit).
Geoff is available on a limited basis for commissions and original work as well. He lives with his wife and sons in England and sails whenever time permits.
Simply Google his work or have a look at this US site. An overview of his work can also be found here.
